Whether it’s debilitating headaches, back problems or joint issues pain can take its toll on your daily activities. Oftentimes, we don’t even realize the scope of our discomfort until we find that we are unable to perform a certain task, or when our pain becomes debilitating enough to send us on our way to a doctor. What we must come to understand about our bodies is that they keep a record of events and actions that we do sometimes without thinking about at all.
Subluxation simply means bones out of place that are applying pressure to the nerves and creating swelling and discomfort. The pain and inflammation appear gradually over time as the pressure becomes constant and more and more irritation develops within the joint space. This leads to chronic muscle spasms and weakness. It can sometimes result in numbness, as well.
At the moment that we realize that we’re in trouble when the pain has become so overwhelming that it is interfering with daily activities in our lives, we tend to go running and searching for a quick fix. This route can oftentimes be surgery. There seems to be a belief that surgery will put an end to the pain and symptoms of the problem for good.
Rarely is this truly the case. In our office, we see quite a few post surgical patients who, after their recovery period have been disheartened to find their pain and symptoms returning to the same or worse severity than before their surgery. If there is one thing that we would like to educate everyone about, it is that our bodies were made wonderfully to mend themselves. But, you have to put your body in the correct environment in order for that to happen. Chiropractic adjustments work to realign the spinal bones, lessening pressure on the nerves and reducing inflammation. To further this effect, we recommend using ice (cryotherapy) which pushes excess blood and fluids away from the area releasing congestion and decreasing pressure on the nerve itself.
Our nerves are the communication pathways between our brains and every organ and tissue in our body. Without this vital pathway we would not survive. Protecting the integrity of your nervous system is one of the most important things you can do for your health. If you haven’t been introduced to chiropractic yet, we hope you will allow us to help you be at your best. Call us today to set up your first appointment FREE of charge. (540) 433-6909
